Local Apples, Ancient Journey

Locally grown apples are available to me through a local farm store, Acorn Acres Farm in Chesterton, Indiana. Their flavors are deep and surprising and layered even though are not always picture perfect outside, the insides are (if you don't mind cutting away a spot or two).  I have been enjoying them sliced or blended into an applesauce soup. Their flavors even inspired a poem-style reverie. See below.

Drinking Earth

Apples. Local apples.

Ancient treat. Rediscovered.

Being apple tree roots.  Drinking from Earth.

My bio-region apples in my belly now.

Flowing in my veins. 

Answering homing pigeon call from the depths of me, Earth, apples.

Answering the call.

Again and again and again.
